Mrs. Mary Emma (Goad) Swint, age 67, a resident of the Pilot Mountain Community, went to be with her heavenly Father on March 9, 2010. Mrs.
Swint was born on August 17, 1942 in Gobey. She was a member of Redemption Baptist Church, formerly known as Pilot Mountain Old Fashioned Missionary Baptist Church for more than thirty years.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Odie and Stella Goad; two
brothers: Enmon Goad and Clyde Goad; and a sister: Dorothy Reed.
She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years, John Swint, Jr.;
daughter: Donna Stevens and husband, Jesse Stevens of the Pilot Mt.
Community; sons: James Swint and wife, Janna of Coalfield, Marty Swint and wife, Sissy of Wartburg, and Johnny Swint and wife, Allison of Deer Lodge; three sisters: Joe Jones of Wartburg, Kathy and Stanley Woods of Lancing, and Eula and Tony Newport of Robbins; grandchildren: Andrea, Hillary, and Kayleigh Swint, Brittney, Chelsea, and Brooke Swint, Jacob, Braxton, and Morgan Swint, Terry Stevens, Jacquline Anderson, and Logan Gunter; special friend, Lora May Goad; five great grandchildren, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives.

Mr. William Mckinley Blalock of Wartburg, passed away Monday March 9, 2010.
He was a veteran of the United States Army achieving the rank of Staff Sargent.
He was previously employed with Madison Tree Service and a truck driver and was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Self Blalock; parents: Henry Clay and Phrona Longmire Blalock; brothers: David, Lonnie, Delbert, Walter, and Lowell Blalock; and sisters: Mildred Bunch and Joyce Ramey.
He is survived by daughter: Barbara Phair and husband, Rick of Ohio; Stepchildren: Reba Swain, Guinetta Strickland, Roberta Barrett, Mary (Dean) Blalock, and Wayne (Laura) Strickland; companion, Mary Ellen Lamance; sisters: Geneva Lawson of Indiana, Betty (Paul) McCallie of Kingston, and Nancy Hunter of Oliver Springs; grandchildren: Staff Sgt. Jeffery Gillum, and Sarah and Katie Phair; thirteen step-grandchildren; great grandchild: Graydon Gillum; and by numerous great, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs. Marian Jewell Worley, age 80 of Harriman, entered into her heavenly body on March 7, 2010 after a courageous battle with COPD. She was born to the late Stobart and Lola Nance in 1929 in Lancing, TN where she spent her early years. For the remainder of her life, Jewell lived in Harriman. During those early years she was employed at Burlington Mills, but later retired from Martin Marietta. She will always be remembered for her strong work ethic and her dedication to her family. We hope we can only mirror those lessons with our own families.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband: Doyle Worley. Infant son: Scott Worley. Son: Keith Williams. Stepson: Jack Worley Brother: Jimmy Nance.
She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law: Craig Williams of Wartburg, Mike & Susan Williams of Harriman. Three daughters and sons-in-law: Julie Halk, Geraldine & Johnny Sandifer and Karen & John Coaker all of Harriman. Three brothers: Alan Nance, Wade Nance and Gene Nance. One sister: Katherine Perry all of Morgan County. And a host of grand children and great grandchildren who will miss their “Granny” immensely. Our comfort is knowing we will see her again in Heaven. Special thanks to the nurses at Amedysis Hospice, ProCase Management and Roane Medical Center, who took care of our mother as if she were part of their own families.

Mrs. Annie Osborne Sexton age 93 of the Annadale Community, passed away Monday March 8, 2010 in Standing Stone Care and Rehab Center of Monterey.
She was a member of the Pilot Mtn. Baptist Church.

Mrs. Reba Jane Sampson 03/01/2010 Mrs. Reba Jane Potter Sampson, age 68 of Harriman, passed away Sunday March 1, 2010 at the Life Care Center of Morgan County in Wartburg where she left behind a host of friends. Before going to Life Care, Reba lived at Harriman Gardens where she had many friends including a special friend, Lucy Lively. Reba attended church at Harriman Gardens, she was of the Baptist faith.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Sampson. Her parents: Charlie and Martha Potter. One brother: Charles Potter. And two sisters: Loretta Ooten and Mary Katherine Potter.
She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law: Ralph and Wilma Potter. Three sisters and one brother-in-law: Carol Ooten, Bucky and Rick Nelson and Debbie May. And a host of nieces, nephews, family, friends and loved ones.

02/28/2010 Mr. Kenneth A. Sheldon, age 85, a lifelong resident of the Coal Hill Community, passed away Sunday February 28, 2010 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Mary Charlotte Rayder Sheldon. One son: Charles Sheldon. Three daughters: Sandra Sheldon, Anita Sheldon and Kathy Bunch. Eight brothers and one sister.
He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Kenny and Sonza Sheldon, Glen and Linda Sheldon and Danny Sheldon. One daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Danny Bailey. Sis Bowman Kries, born November 12, 1921, passed away and went to Heaven, Thursday morning, February 25, 2010 at her home in Wartburg after a lengthy illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Wartburg. It is with sadness, we announce the passing of Robert (Shorty) Monday. Born in Alticrest, TN to the parents of Byrd & Ollie Monday, Bob just celebrated his 84th birthday in January, and died after a brief illness on February 13, 2010.
Bob joined the Navy in 1948 and served for 4 ½ years. He lived in California where he was an accountant for most of his career before returning to Rugby, TN in 1985.

Mr. Robert Dale “Bobby” Miller, age 55 of Oakdale, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday February 21, 2010 surrounded by family at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born December 24, 1954 to Hugh and Eula Miller of Oakdale, he joined the United States Air Force upon graduating from Oakdale High School in 1973. After retiring from the USAF he returned home to Tennessee and worked for the United States Postal Service. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by wife; Terri Ogles Miller, son; Jay Miller, mother; and father; Hugh and Eula Miller and brother; Bill Miller.

Mr. Abe “Buddy” Burress, age 68 of Coalfield, Tn, passed away Monday February 15, 2010 at Parkwest Medical Center. Buddy was a believer of the Baptist Faith and loved gospel music. He worked as an appliance repairman for over 40 years. He enjoyed computer, electronics and yard sales. He was preceded in death by parents; Rosher and Teenie Burress and sisters; Pearl Hood, Behula Brown, Trula Seiber and Susie Hall.

Mr. Ervin Daniel Davis, age 81 of Lancing, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2010 at his home in Lancing, surrounded by his family, after a short battle with cancer. He was born December 26, 1928 in Lancing to Arthur and Gerta Davis. He proudly served his country and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a hardworking man, who loved his family and worked hard to provide for them and he was proud of them. Mrs. Hattie Hill Swicegood, age 86 of Harriman, passed away Friday February 12, 2010 at The Bridge at Rockwood.
She was preceded in death by her husband: James Earl Swicegood. Parents: Morton and Dora Nelson Hill. Three brothers: Hugh, Hoover and Clint Hill. And three sisters: Ella Mae Fritts, Mary Cheek and Gracie Landrum.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne & Bobbie Swicegood of Rockwood, David & Carrie Swicegood of Kingston, John Swicegood and Raymond & Tammy Swicegood all of Knoxville. Mr. Larry Hale Saffell, age 58 of Wartburg, passed away at his home Monday February 15, 2010. He was born in Sunbright, TN on January 15, 1952 and was a lifelong resident of Morgan County.
He is preceded in death by father; Clement Hale Saffell and mother; Mary Ella Collins Saffell both of Wartburg.

Mr. Donald J. Patterson age 67 of Wartburg, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 in the Life Care Center of Morgan County.
He was preceded in death by parents; Wilburn and Lizzie Patterson.

Mrs. Georgia Schubert Snyder, of Knoxville, Tn.. passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Feb. 8, 2010. She was 85 years old. She was a native of Morgan County, born and raised in Petros. Georgia graduated High School from Oakdale, Tn. She obtained her teaching certificate and taught school at Petros Elementary School for three years. She then moved to Knoxville, Tn. And entered nurses training to become a R.N. at General Hospital Professional School of Nursing. Later she received her B.S. and M.S. from U.T. She had extensive nursing and supervisory experience in hospitals around East Tenn. In 1960 she accepted the position as instructor of medical and surgical nursing at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Knoxville. She retired from St. Mary’s In 1979 and returned to Petros to be with her mother, whose health was failing at the time. During this time Ms. Snyder became and R.N. at the Morgan County Regional Prison Clinic in Wartburg for a period of time. Ms. Snyder is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Emma Schubert, Two brothers; Arthur Pete Schubert and John Henry Schubert and wife, Eva Schubert all of Petros and a special great nephew, John (Jody) Wiggins, of Oak Ridge. Survivors are three nieces; Marty West, Debra Nation and Missy Phillips, all of Oak Ridge, Nephew, John Wayne Schubert, of Oliver Springs. Two Great nieces, Monica Carlisle and children, Cory and Zachariah, and Emma Phillips, both of Oak Ridge and a special lifelong friend, Mildred Brantly of Speedwell, Tn. James (Jim) E. Freytag, age 69 of Rockwood, TN, passed away on February 10, 2010. Jim was born in Wartburg, TN on June 2nd, 1940. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company in Illinois until retiring to his current home in Rockwood, TN. Jim loved fishing and boating. He enjoyed wood working and bowling. He was preceded in death by his parents: James Leon Freytag, formerly of Wartburg and Wilda Beatrice Freytag Bonner, formerly of Illinois. Mr. Darryl Wayne Hamby, age 44 of the Joyner Community, went to be with the Lord on Monday February 1, 2010. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Hamby was a veteran of the United States Army and the National Guard.
He was a certified Diesel mechanic and was employed with Roger Daniels Trucking Co.
He enjoyed outdoor activities and especially enjoyed fishing.

VIOLET BALDWIN JUSTICE, 94, of Coalfield, passed away on January 31, 2010. She was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on May 31, 1915. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Victor Erwin Justice, infant daughter Kathleen Justice, parents A.G. and Vera Baldwin, sister Louise Miller and brother Roger Baldwin, daughters-in-law Jeanita Hannahan Justice of Ohio, and Betty Russell Justice of Oliver Springs.
She is survived by 12 children: 7 sons and spouses - Tommy Ray of Oliver Springs, Vaughn and Mona of Coalfield, Russell of Florida, Charles and Betty Lou of Harriman, Randel and Barbara of Lancing, Dickey and Judy of Coalfield, and Mike and Debbie of Coalfield; Five daughters and spouses – Jane and G. M. McCartt of Florida, Kathryn and Robert Gwinn of Ohio, Linda and Frank Purdy of New Jersey, Susie and Terry Worstell of Indiana, and Denise and Mick Jones of Pennsylvania; 28 Grandchildren; 47 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren; One brother - Hubert Baldwin of Oneida, sisters – Anna Baldwin Judd of Cookeville, and Edna Baldwin Peavyhouse of Oneida. She is also survived by special friends Jeanette Long of Wartburg and Joanna Johnson of Oliver Springs.
She was a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Charter Member of the Coalfield Senior Citizens where she served as Secretary-Treasurer. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and cooking for her family, and was well known for her biscuits and chocolate gravy, a Southern delicacy.

Mrs. Hazel Stringfield May, born November 6, 1929 in Morgan County, TN, got her promotion to Glory on January 22, 2010,
after a two year battle with cancer.
She served the Lord as church organist at Pilot Mtn. Baptist Church for many years and was loved and will be greatly missed by her family, church family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years; Robert C. (R. C.), her parents; Rev. J.W. and Meda Stringfield, two brothers; Herschel and Leslie, two nephews, Charles and Jimmy and two great-grandchildren; Ryan and Rylee Baker.
Mrs. May is survived by children; Phyllis and Larry Mutz to the Pilot Mtn. Community, Phil and Theresa May of Chesterfield, MI and Patricia Barnes of Lenoir City, TN.

Mr. Morris Kesler Young, Age 71, passed away Jan 15, 2010 at his home in
the Joyner Community. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He is retired from Y-12 where he worked as a Machinist. He formerly owned a CB business in Joyner where he was known as Beardog. He also owned a HAM radio business and his call sign was KC4-TGN. He worked as a field deputy for the Morgan County Sheriffs department. He worked with Disabled American Veterans group to help veterans receive benefits and took anyone who needed transportation to the veteran's hospitals in both Nashville and Johnson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents Rev. Roscoe and Violet Young of the Burrville community and his oldest daughter , Karen Lee, who passed away on January 4, 2010 . Mrs. Veneda “Neda” Pelfrey, age 81 of Harriman, passed away Wednesday January 13, 2010 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Pelfrey was a loving mother and an avid dog lover.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Jesse Dee and Gypsie Lorene Duncan Robinson. One brother: Roy Robinson. And two sisters: Billie Conner and Jean Silvey.

Matthew Dale Rose age 21 of Wartburg went to be with the lord, due to a single car accident on Hwy 62 in Wartburg. Matt was a graduate of Wartburg High School where he was a member of the football team. He was a graduate of TTC-Harriman. He was currently employed by the Morgan County Sheriffs Dept. as a correctional officer. He was a proud member of Mossy Grove Baptist Church. Matt was a man who loved hunting, spending time with his many many friends, and spent most of his time being the most loving caring son, brother, grandson, father, husband and friend to all he knew.
